Where it comes from: Coca Plant Slang names: Coke and Snow White Two statistics about teen usage: The latest statistics of teen cocaine use from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) in 2008, stated that nearly 1.4 million Americans met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders criteria for dependence or abuse of cocaine and crack for the previous year. In 2005, about one Ontario student in 20 (4.4%) in grades 7 to 12 said he or she had used cocaine at least once in the past year. That is almost 43,000 students. |
How it is used: Coca leaves could be taken orally. It would be absorbed more slowly than by smoking or snorting. Coca tea can also be brewed from coca leaves. Coca paste is dried and then smoked in tobacco or marijuana cigarettes. Cocaine hydrochloride, a white powder, is made from coca paste. This can be snorted or injected. Coca base is made from a chemical procedure and then smoked in a water pipe or tobacco or marijuana cigarettes. Crack can be made from the cocaine hydrochloride salt by adding baking soda and water. It can be inhaled by putting on the rock in a glass tube or cigarette lighter. It can also be injected.

Unlawful possession is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment for up to 7 years and conviction for a first offence can have a fine up to $1,000 or imprisonment for up to 6 months, or both. A subsequent offence can have a fine up to $2,000 or imprisonment for up to 1 year, or both. Trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession for the purpose of exporting, production, or import and export can be punishable by up to life imprisonment.
